You might think your résumé has to be “perfect” right away — but guess what? Everyone starts somewhere. Even simple improvements can turn your beginner résumé into one that stands out.

In this post, we’ll show you before and after examples of teen résumés — so you can see what works, what doesn’t, and how to level up your own. These glow-ups are all based on real common mistakes we see in first-time résumés, and how to fix them.

What Makes a Résumé Look “Basic”?

Here’s what we usually see in beginner résumés:

  • Too short or missing key sections

  • No clear goal or summary

  • Just a list of schools or random bullet points

  • No skills or action words

  • Weak formatting or messy layout

The good news: all of these are easy to fix with a little editing!
